Commissioning an instrument from Gary

When you commission an instrument from me, you get an instrument that is tailored to your needs and is truly unique to you. If you wish, you can be fully involved in the design of your instrument. Together we can discuss its shape, choice of materials, choice of finish, style of ornamentation, dimensions such as width of fingerboard, string spacing, scale length etc. The options are endless and can be bewildering for some players. Whether you are a top flight professional musician or a complete novice, I can guide you through the process. Many of my recent commissions have been recorded on my blog and this should give you a flavour of the whole process.

Although, the majority of my instruments are guitars, I am increasing building more unusual instruments. Apart from guitars, currently on my list, is a mandocello, a cittern and a baritone ukulele!

Most tonewoods are available and the exquisite hand made Robson tuners (Click here for details) are offered as an option. I can also supply Hiscox cases. (Click here for details)

Prices start at £990 for a steel-string and £1750 for an Indian rosewood classical guitar. It is impossible to list all the variations, so feel free to contact me with your requirements for a detailed quotation A 15% deposit is required before an instrument is started and the balance on completion. A larger deposit may be requested for a particularly unusual instrument. Most instruments should be completed within nine to twelve months of receiving an order and deposit.
